A "zero-carbon factory" is simply a production factory that produces zero or close to zero greenhouse gas emissions during its production and operation within a certain period of time (usually in annual units). That is, the carbon emissions generated in the production process are eliminated or offset in various ways, and finally the overall state of near zero emissions is achieved. According to the calculation of carbon dioxide equivalent, on the basis of giving priority to independent emission reduction, it is necessary to eliminate emission reduction projects outside the accounting boundary and/or offset the corresponding amount of carbon credits. For example, some factories use clean energy to meet the energy needs of production by installing a large number of solar panels and wind power generation equipment, reducing dependence on traditional fossil energy and reducing carbon emissions from the source; Other factories will participate in some carbon sink projects to offset their own greenhouse gas emissions through afforestation, so as to achieve the goal of "zero carbon factory".
The construction of a zero-carbon factory should be based on the basic requirements and evaluation requirements of the Code, guided by various indicators, strengthen the carbon management and low-carbon operation capabilities of enterprises, improve the efficiency of energy and resource utilization, and continuously optimize the performance of carbon emission reduction, and mainly provide the following construction ideas:
① Clarify the goal and strategy of zero-carbon factory construction: aiming at zero-carbon, we should mobilize up and down, unify the construction idea, and achieve the final carbon neutral goal through energy structure optimization, energy resource management improvement, green technology transformation, carbon capture, carbon collection and carbon offset according to the actual operation of the factory.
② Planning the application of new energy: Optimizing the traditional energy consumption structure and continuously increasing the proportion of green energy in energy use is the most direct way to reduce carbon, such as building distributed photovoltaic power stations and energy storage systems, selecting new energy forklifts and passenger cars, and introducing electric cookers and solar heat collection systems.
③ Building an intelligent management platform for energy and carbon emissions: laying the underlying sensing equipment, collecting energy usage data and carbon emissions data, building a system platform for data collection, data analysis and data visualization with the help of intelligent Internet of Everything (AIoT) technology, and identifying and correcting abnormal data to ensure the integrity, accuracy and reliability of monitoring data.
④ Establish a comprehensive utilization system of resources: fully understand the energy conduction path in the production process, deeply explore the opportunities for the utilization of waste heat and pressure, and improve the utilization rate of renewable energy in the whole process. On the premise of ensuring that the products meet the standards, optimize the use structure of raw and auxiliary materials and reduce the proportion of non-renewable and non-recyclable materials.
⑤ Carry out product life cycle evaluation: from the perspective of life cycle, carry out product ecological design, optimize production technology, reduce raw and auxiliary materials and energy consumption, and choose green transportation scheme. According to the quantitative methods of carbon footprint evaluation at home and abroad, carbon footprint inventory was carried out and the results were used to optimize the carbon emission process of products.
⑥ Implement carbon offset or carbon removal: According to the Code, the factory should appropriately choose carbon capture and carbon storage and other carbon removal means on the basis of implementing independent emission reduction, and then offset the residual carbon emissions to a certain extent by purchasing green certificates, green electricity and voluntary emission reduction projects, so as to finally achieve the carbon neutrality goal of the factory.
The evaluation process of zero-carbon factory includes preparation stage, implementation stage, evaluation stage and continuous improvement stage:
First, the preparation stage
1. Make a zero-carbon factory implementation plan.
2. Establish a greenhouse gas management system and system.
Second, the implementation stage
1. Determine the greenhouse gas emission baseline
2. Implement greenhouse gas emission reduction.
3. Accounting annual greenhouse gas emissions
4. Implement greenhouse gas removal and/or carbon offset.
Third, the evaluation stage
In the evaluation stage, all the conditions are comprehensively scored according to the Evaluation Standard for Zero-carbon Factory (T/CECA-G0171-2022). After the evaluation is passed, the enterprise will obtain a zero-carbon factory certificate issued by an evaluation agency authorized by a third party.
Fourth, the continuous improvement stage
Enterprises should continuously improve the management of greenhouse gases in their factories, maintain the status of zero-carbon factories, and finally achieve and maintain zero net emissions.

Under the background of implementing the national double-carbon goal, provinces have gradually accelerated the progress of "zero-carbon factory creation". Since China Energy Conservation Association issued the group standard of "Zero-carbon Factory Evaluation Specification" (T/CECA-G 0171-2022) in 2022, China Energy Conservation Association’s carbon neutrality professional committee jointly drafted the units Yuanjing Technology Group, Titanium and Certification, China Quality Certification Center, China Testing Certification, Unilever and China Standardization. Including the publication of the "Management Measures for Group Standards of Zero-carbon Factory Evaluation Norms" and the publication of the "Zero-carbon Factory Evaluation Group", which consists of China Energy Conservation Association, China Energy Conservation Association’s Carbon Neutralization Professional Committee, Vision Intelligence, Titanium and Testing Certification Group and China Quality Certification Center, and the establishment of the first domestic zero-carbon factory evaluation and disclosure platform. And has collected 20 carbon factory certification service organizations nationwide, and absorbed nearly 100 third-party certification organizations, providing technical support and certification foundation for the establishment of zero carbon factories.
At present, nearly 100 enterprises, including the world’s top 500 companies, have completed the evaluation and certification of zero-carbon factories through this standard. At the first China Carbon Finance Forum, Titanium and Certification (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. issued the first batch of five-star zero-carbon factory certification certificates for Yuanjing Energy Co., Ltd., Yuanjing Power Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., Schneider Wangao (Tianjin) Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd., Dongguan Baihong Industrial Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Baihong Composite Materials Technology Co., Ltd. Well-known enterprises such as Unilever (China) Co., Ltd. (Hefei Jiaqing Nursing Factory), Ningbo Qinyuan Water Treatment Technology Co., Ltd. (Cixi Factory), Xi ‘an Geely Automobile Co., Ltd., Trina Solar Co., Ltd., Delixi Electric (Wuhu) Co., Ltd., Schneider (Beijing) Low-voltage Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. and Wuhu Schneider Distribution Electric Appliance Manufacturing Co., Ltd. have also obtained zero-carbon factory certification.
On April 20th, 2024, the Special Committee officially launched a series of activities of "Zero Carbon Factory" in China at the Second Carbon Finance Forum. Actively promote the construction of zero-carbon factories, actively strive for the incentive policies of national/local authorities, and publicize them in various local systems through "Zero-carbon factories in China", and have achieved remarkable results in the industrial field through mechanism innovation and system promotion. Since September 2023, the Special Committee on Carbon Neutralization has jointly held an exchange forum on "Zero Carbon Factory" with the Inner Mongolia Development and Reform Commission, and achieved positive results. Up to now, more than 20 provinces and cities in China have written the zero-carbon factory creation plan into the local dual-carbon planning plan, and more than 14 provinces and cities have carried out the zero-carbon factory evaluation work, and nearly 100 zero-carbon factory creation services have been assisted by the carbon neutrality special Committee.
In 2024, the Special Committee on Carbon Neutralization, together with Anhui Energy Conservation Association, Sichuan Energy Conservation Association, China Quality Certification Center, Shenzhen Emissions Exchange, and Guangdong Energy Conservation Association, jointly held a seminar on zero-carbon factories such as "Hefei, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Kunshan and Tianjin", which was a complete success, and nearly 600 key energy users directly benefited. At the same time, they indicated that they would actively participate in the establishment of zero-carbon factories.

Schneider Electric’s Equipment Engineering (Xi ‘an) Co., Ltd. After being awarded the title of "green factory" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, it was officially announced at the ceremony that day that it won the five-star certificate of zero-carbon factory (Type I) issued by Titanium and Certification, becoming the second "zero-carbon factory" certified by an authoritative organization in Xi ‘an, and it is also Schneider Electric.
